Thank you for your responses.
Bob, SMC stands for Sheet Molded Composite. Essentially it is fiberglass and epoxy resin compressed under high tonnage and heat which sets or kicks over the catalyst in the resin. Today's automotive industry uses it in such products as hoods, doors, radiator supports, skid plates, deck lids, non-appearance structural parts, composite truck boxes, as well as A surface appearance parts. SMC will take paint much the same as steel. The main reason I am pursuing this is because this material will withstand salt, snow, mud, and moisture that caused all of my brackets on my 55 to fail. It would be great to put on a pair of running board brackets and not concern myself with cleaning them out each time I take my truck out. I am using an original service part as a model and will build the reproduction in the same manner. All holes drilled as the original. If you are familiar with this part please feel free to give me your input. I am not sure if this bracket also fits the M-37 so if anyone is familiar please let me know. It will help to find out what volume of parts I may be able to spread the tooling cost over. I predict that I should be able to compete with the cost of the current steel version.

Thanks again for your feedback. All inquiries are welcome and I will keep you posted.

Mike
