How many kinds of filler necks are there?

Were all fuel filler necks created equal? I have been trying to fit the right one to my '55 (second series bed) and I'm confused (SOP for me). Did the filler neck change with different model years or bed series'? The neck I found has three bolt holes in it, but there are no corresponding ones in the bed. Looked through all of my pictures and books and it seems that part of the truck rarely shows in photos.
