Cracked chassis

Perplexed!! I just recieved my '48 PW, the guy I bought it from had taken pictures of some angle iron that was welded to the top and bottom of the chassis on each side, the rear springs have helpers, what does this tell me, da! overloaded? Anyway the reason for angle iron is a "cracked chassis" not split open but hair lines, the main bed cross member is also cracked. So, do I weld in a piece to strengthen it, or replace the chassis, I would like to keep the "machine" as close to original as possible and at the same time use the "machine" for work, not extremely heavy work.

The cab has NO rust, ori. paint, very clean overall.

Thanks for all the past and present

Bob C.
