You might want to pull the e-brake and check the rear seal under the drum. Easier to change the cable then too. And clean up the e-brake parts anyhow. There really shouldn't be enough oil getting up the cable to make that big of a mess.
And there is a new cable available from the local parts stores. It's a few inches longer, but works fine. The wobbly needle will go away. $17. Check PIF and archives.
