voltage reg./gen. problems 6-volt

I cleaned the distributor terminals with some scotch brite. Lots of corrosion inside the plug wire terminals, emery clothed the points, readjusted the clearance, and closed everything back up. The ampmeter now is registering greater than before, as engine speed increases, amperage increases and will increase beyond 36 amps, and will not decrease as engine speed increases. The manual says amperage should decrease as engine speed increases. What's goin' on?
