funny you should bring up engine oil analysis. I had a long conversaton about it last week with an engine builder in town. Many of the quarries and mines around here us it as a SOP diagnositc. To skim the surface of what can be learned, babbit indicates bearing condition, carbon by type, combustion gas, or air cleaner effectiveness, valve condition, fuel condition. On and on. Of course it all come down to who reads the report.
