I'm done rebuilding my NP420 transmission. If anyone is rebuilding one and needs the clips shown in the picture let me know. They are 0.089, 0.094 and 0.097 thick. Just send me the cost cost of shipping and you can have them.

The big things I learned from this project are:

1) You need to get a "small parts kit" for an NP435 transmission to get the snap ring that fits on the input shaft and sets the clearance for the synchronizer clutch gear. That "kit" is available from Truck Parts Inc. in Charlotte North Carolina.

2) The only major problem with my transmission was that the main drive bearing was destroyed. I know I'm not the only one who has seen that problem.

3) The shims that you need to set the clearance for the synchronizer assembly come in the small parts kit. (the one for the NP435)

4) That snap ring for the synchronizer clutch should not be re-used. If you look closely in the picture, the old one is slightly expanded from the new ones.

5) The manual to rebuild this is TM 9-2520-232-35. It is available for free online. It breaks down the rebuild into a simple small subassemblies.

Thank you to Charles Talbert for sharing his knowledge and experience with me on this. Charles told me where to get the small parts kit and told me about not re-using the snap rings.

Wayne
