I used a piece of side chain from an old set of truck chains. Cut it through one side, spread it to fit through the hole in the flap, closed it and welded it, then twisted it 90 degrees. The link hangs from a solid J hook welded to the 3" x 5" angle that is welded to the flat bed. The flaps are free to swing, and can be removed by lifting them beyond parallel to the road to remove from the J hook.
