I work for CAL FIRE, previously known as CDF, California Department of Forestry, previously know as California Division of Forestry. Just west of Sacramento is Davis, which is the location of our Mobile Equipment Division. When all new equipment is purchased, it goes thru Davis for outfitting of radios, lights, decals. Then is distributed to the assigned Unit.

Likewise when the equipment is finished with its service life, it is returned to Davis to be stripped of its radios, lights and decals. The State Dept. of General Services, or DGS then holds an auction and sells off all the equipment to either other Local Governments or to the public.

This particular picture was taken at Davis with surplus equipment in the "boneyard'. This Power Wagon was a Ranger's truck, the equivalent of today's Battalion Chief. This truck was documented as being delivered and serving most of its life in the San Diego Ranger Unit, and served most of its life being painted green, as were all of the vehicles in this picture, close to the color of my truck. They were painted red in the mid to late 70s

Next to it is another Ranger's truck, and in the back are Crew Busses, used to transport inmate fire crews.

In the research we have been unable to find out when this picture was taken

Thanks
Nick
