Yeah, all of those places today are spread maybe 500 miles apart, but they all employ trained, professional, factory authorized, technicians. Years ago when there was a radiator shop, electric shop, and car dealership in every nighborhood - the guys there were only mechanics, and they only knew how to do the work and do it right, they did not have an official document to hang on the wall to impress everyone.

My Grandpa was one of those. He worked at a Chevrolet dealership during the Depression. He started in the back stall in the shop, greasing and performing oil changes, back out of sight where the customers were sure to never see him. Over a two year period, he worked his way up to the position of head mechanic and got to display his talent right there outside the office windows in the first stall - in full view of the customers. Engine rebuilds, differential rebuilds, transmission, steering, etc. work was the norm.

He had no professional training and only a 6th grade education.
