So what I got out of it is, you need to go to town hall and get a tax map of your property. It should be free to the owner, and might cost a small fee "$12 at our town hall" which will give you the surrounding lot plots as well. It is worth the time to introduce yourself to the town tax collector. Sound like that is the paragraph on the title or deed, which is always hard to understan. Surveyors put rods or granite markes at the corners of most plots. If you can't locate them, you can use the lat/long usually marked on the plot maps. This is where a gps device would help out. The more accurate Trimble GIS unit is sub-meter accurate, but a regular phone with gps on should get you close to the location, then use a metal detecto to find the marker. There is usually a metal stamp attached to the rock or granite marker indicating the last group to survey the area. Someone has a map, just have to locate it.

Small suggestion, after you locate the sites, visit them every two years and remark the flagging or paint you leave to find them at the ribbon usually falls off and paint fades.

My father was a surveyor by trade, and many atimes he would drag me out in the woods, with all the damn bugs to mark someones land. I picked a different proffession.
