Neal, I bought a new power wagon in 1978, 360cuin 3.54 gears, would get 14.1 on the hiway and 9 in town. this was a full time 4x4. they don't wear anything any faster than any other 4 wheel drive truck as long as they are maintained. you will find it to your advantage to go to synthectic lubes in the transfer case, diff's and trans. it will cost some but will pay for itsself pretty quick. the reason I like a full timer is that my wife can crawl up in it and go!! I don't have to worry about whether or not she will get home. I've turned her loose in 10 inches of snow and didn't worry. a full time truck is at least 300% more stable on a slick road than anything else. and 1979 was the last of the fulltime four bys (I think) Dave.
