My '68 is like your's Bucky, slipper spring design, I believe it's called. My overloads also wrap 180 deg.'s around the pad,I'm assuming to serve as a limiting device so as not to let the axle droop too much and put a bunch of strain on the little retainer bolts of the spring slipper brackets? Doug
