Sure, but still not what is available today. The big benefit is that without the computers and more advanced understandings we have today the factor of safety of the older calculations was higher. But there was not the standardization either.

There's little way to tell if the bolt you removed was graded differently from one removed from somewhere else. Most of the bolts on our trucks just have the CDPD logo on them. Grade 5 or 8? Do they even meet those specifications?

If you have properly graded bolt then the minimum performance specs are a known quantity.
