Making sure the body does not touch the frame or tranny sure does quiet them down. I used 1/2 thick aluminum washers at the body mounts, then spacers at the radiator support/frame junction.
Noise in 3rd and 4th pretty much eliminates the tranny, because the two gears use totally different tranny components. 3rd uses 3rd and all the bearings, 4th locks input to output, uses no gears so slight load on bearings.
U-joints and transfer case remain in the loop, or engine? Or differentials?
