Replaced mine for the first time this year as well but I've had it over 10 years. Mine took AAA's so it wasn't hard to find replacements.
Most all my welding is done inside so the only light it gets to recharge is welding and overhead lights. I do leave the helmet laying up with a rag over the viewer lens but the recharge panels are exposed.
