If I had listened to the 50 years of building experience in me, I would have wasted a lot of time. I had intended to get a couple of 4x6 white oak timbers and scribe them to the frame, then build the bed on top of them. I decided to skip the 4x6 step and shim the bed until I got the right positioning. I shimmed the channel so it was parallel to the frame and started laying out the cross channels that will support the deck. It was quickly obvious that he bed was not going to come out lined up with the cab. So I set up a jig with a string line parallel to the running board and with the line on the door just above the handle. Then I messed with shims until I got the bed frame parallel to the string line. Now it looks like it belongs. Can't do much tomorrow, but hope to get back at it on Friday. A guy has to wear a lot of different hats to work on these trucks.
