The 12v American Bosch wiper motors I got from VPW were an exact replacement for the 6v American Bosch motors that were used on the Dodge's of that era. The mounting hardware requires some very important mounting brackets that handle the torque of the electric motors. The replacement motors did not have those brackets. I had a truck with the 6v motors and was able to use the mounting brackets from the 6v to match up with the 12v.

There was also other required mounting hardware that came on trucks with electric wipers that is a little hard to find. The VPW motors included some shims that could be used to align the motors with the cab, but they did not handle the torque. Fortunately that hardware was on the parts truck.

Details of that upgrade are on my web site.

I suggested alternate bracket ideas to use with the American Bosch 12v motors and one reader designed a perfect replacement and that's shown in the windshield wiper article.

By the way, the torque was adequate for new snow, but I never got to test with ice frozen on the windshield. Why would I - since the wipers on my new Dodge needed help then?
