I have a similar problem. After cleaning, sanding and painting the frame, installing new glass and weatherstrip, there is a small gap between the frame and the post on the driver's side. I have adjusted as much as I can, and still have a gap about the size a credit card could pass through, about 5" long. The truth is I don't know if it was that way before I removed it and did all the work on it or not.
If I understand Vaughn's suggestion, it would seem to me that it will flatten your frame, making it effectively a little wider.
It could work, but like in my case, who's to say it wasn't that way already? I wonder how many other windshields have similar problems?
