Yeah, I have used long 3/8 dowels to help spring in the cardboard headliner.

But the copper I tried didn't help if it is held to the inside. Due to the convex shape, as soon as heat is applied the metal bows away from the copper . And copper on the outside, weld from inside, didn't work. I had to block up a big spring with the copper on top, then reach inside through the back window to weld. Too much yoga for me, and the copper wasn't much improvement.

At least on the small holes, spiraling in with filler . will make a weld tend to shrink, making a flat spot. Easy to grind, then work to convex with hammer and dolly.

My eyes are old, hands never were any too steady, but a grinder and skim of bondo would make up for all that- IF i can do a good job of blocking in the final bondo.

Body work is like drinking- If it was easy, everybody would do it. ;^)
