thanks. I think I am on the right path. My first concern was that theshaft nut/yoke was nut getting tight enough because the threads maybe were damaged, but that is not the case, the large flat washers that go on the threaded shaft get tight when I tighten the 1 5/16" nut, so that is not the problem. I suspect you are right and the bearings are worn, although by eye I can not see that. I think my options are to try ne bearings ($$) and likely get or make new shims. The bearing races seem fine, I am certain I would see wear in them if they had wear, but I can't tell about the actual rollers in the bearing cage.
