hopefully Chris is wrong and your engine isnt sutck... could have had a bad bendix for along time causing undue stress on the housing. or maybe has the wrong or improperly adjusted stgarter xwitch. some are adjustable adn if adjusted too low, extra pressure is needed to get the starter to work and that is hard on the bendix
