Well it finally happened, and just as I was about to exit the garage on my virgin trip around the yard. The starter on my 47 WDX gave out. Upon taking it off, the tip of the housing had cracked in two. I fished that out from beside the flywheel, but cannot find the actual gear that slides on the starter shaft. It must have fallen to the bottom. I can manually turn the flywheel, and it hasnt surfaced, nor do I hear it scraping on anything.

Question #1:how much do I have to worry about debris in with the flywheel? It seems pretty roomy in there, and obviously there is no oil to pick up and carry UFOs.

Question #2: The starter is is stock Chrysler 6-volt, Auto-lite# MCH-6101, 146 tooth starter. What else could I use that might save me some money?
