Well, three weeks ago I made the jump and bought a '56 Wagon who lived the last few years of its life in Pennsyvania. Getting it home was uneventful, with the only stress coming when I got closer to Baltimore and Washington and our crazy drivers. My neighbors '08 F-250 pulled like a monster.

So I have two questions from my work so far.

1) The previous owner installed a new master cylinder and brake lines but left the old wheel cylinders in. I installed mew wheel cylinders and adjusted the toe and heal for the pads on all wheels. The total peddle free play before it engages still seems like five or six inches before I get pressure. Is this normal?

2) The previous owner said it ran hot. I have only driven it a few miles, but when I checked the radiator temperature and head temp with my IR probe it was not even above 160. Possibly the gauge is bad. So today I went to install a new thermostat since the owner did not. When I drained the coolant, I only got about 1.5 gallons at the most out, but the manual says the cooling system is 17 quarts. I realize the engine will hold some of the water, but shouldn't the radiator hold a lot more? He said he recored it, and the outside at least looks good!

Thanks in advance for your help!
