Clutch pedal assembly issue

I am restoring a '68 wm300 and the clutch pedal assembly is loose. The shaft that connects the clutch pedal to the linkage is worn. Can I place a washer on the shaft to tighten up the assembly? Any suggestions would be appreciated.
