Idle mix is exactly that, is no help at acceleration.

Air filters add air flow restriction, like a choke. So simple answer is that the carb is too rich. Maybe the float is too high?

Though also, bad coils can refuse to spark off a rich mixture, you may have a weak coil.

And how clean is the filter media in the air filter? It should look like clean, coarse, steel wool. Or maybe horse hair (yup, for real, animal hair). NOT a wad of rust or mud.

Or maybe there is some interference between the bottom of the filter housing and the choke linkage? Putting the A/F on closes the choke?
