carburetor/air cleaner question

I had the carburetor for my WDX rebuilt and the engine starts quick and runs good until I put the oil bath air cleaner (which I cleaned and filled to the mark with 10w oil) in place. Then the engine won't accelerate or run for very long. I can't seem to help it by adjusting the idle/air screw at the base of the carburetor. Any suggestions?
