Lifting doesn't have to create steering problems. If, for example, the pitman arm comes off the box largely horizontally, a 4" lift can be corrected for with a 4" dropped pitman arm. Or a dropped drag link, or a raised steering arm, or combinations of the above. Despite the age of the truck, you might be surprised if you call Superlift or Skyjacker or others to find that some of this stuff hasn't changed in decades.
Otherwise you'll end up with bump steer, an off center steering wheel, etc. Always have caster checked after a lift. It can be corrected with steel caster wdge shims.
A good spring shop can help you do this right.
