Hello Mike,

Let me enter the fray here. First of all your 1950 WDX is actually a B2PW. If your speedometer is dead, lubing it at this point is not going to reincarnate it. More than likely the speedometer cable is rusted and broken. Common place for this is at the bottom of the large curve where the cable housing comes through the cab. The old cable housings were a far cry from water proof. You can attempt to pull out the two pieces, but I'd advise soaking well with a penetrating oil before you try. Sounds like the advice for the strange sounds are right on target. Let us know.
