On 60's and 70's 318 and 360's, there should be a cast 318 or 360 on the drivers side of the block around the area of the rear two cylinders.
On the front drivers side of the block, just under the head/deck junction, there should be a stamped string of numbers. Within the first few numbers should be a 318 or 360.
The distance between the motor mount ears on the drivers and passenger side is the same for the 273 & 318. The 340 & 360 have one side a wee bit closer together (unequal).
