Ok, so heretic I am...(and dumba** in my youth)

I got my license to drive at age 14(KS). I got a '72 Ch#$% van to abuse, and abuse it I did. Dad purchased it off the lot in '72. It had 180K original miles on it, never had anything unbolted from the engine excepting alt. and carb. It was run on Pennzoil it's whole life. Well, one time I was speeding my way to a nearby town(about 7 miles away), and I mean speeding, atleast for dirt roads. When I get there, smoke is coming from the front, smeels like burning oil, oh well... Come back later, start 'er up and proceed back home, again at high rate of speed. Once at home, same thing with the smoke. I ignored it. The next day my father inquires as to why there is no coolant in the van and no puddle of said coolant under it. "Uh, I don't know...", "Temp gauge, oh yeah(I never looked)". Anyway, I continued to drive this beast for 4 years after that, and only retired it to scavenge parts off it for a much cooler car.

Bottom line, I ran a Chev smallblock 350 in a 3/4 ton van for 7 miles at ~80-90 mph TWICE, with no obvious ill effects. Guess that Pennzoil can't be all that bad.

Ken
