I like to offroad my trucks on occasion so one big advantage I have discovered while winching out Spicer/dana equipped 4x4s is that the angular shape of the housing gets caught on everything and can cause you to get stuck. the one pice type housings are nice and smooth and slide nicely over stuff. skid plate not required. If the stock brakes are set up correctly they stopo great. and dont get lost much when wet like wider shoes do. all in all the stock axles stood the test of time and rarely fail. I offroaded at least 6 of my WCs and PWs quite a bit and only broke one axle in 25 years. the short rear one on a PW. If I want to go faster I will buy a PG or a swepty 4x4.
