That's a tough time you're going through. It seems we all have our stories of losing our best dog. It seems like once they know their time is up, there isn't much you can do to keep them around.

Fathers are tough, in both senses. My father died quickly and unexpectedly. My mother died very slowly. Neither way is easy, no matter how many friends with advice you have, we only lose our parents once. There's no "practice". The best thing now is that your father has you to look after him. I think of all the old people who have no one, or have kids that are nasty to them to the end, and I know your father is lucky to have you. Yes, Alzheimer's, and the several other varieties of brain deterioration, are terrible diseases, maybe the hardest diseases of all to make any sense out of.
