The only one I ever used, 40 years ago now, had steel tops. One round, one racetrack oval.

But since then, if there is no helper within earshot, I do it by myself. Here is what works for me:

Cut a 2x4 to fit between the compressed pedal and something- seat, or seat base. Or maybe back edge of dash? Then fill reservoir, pump it like crazy, jam it down with the 2x4, and let the air out of the rt rear. All that crazy pumping compresses the air through out the whole system, it doesn't take but 2-3 cycles before you move to the lt rear, then the rt front. Lt front is easier, you can pump and hold with one hand and operate the bleeder with the other. ( okay, not with hung pedals) Check fluid level every time, or risk starting over.
