the flash is infared. its noticable if you're looking directly at the camera. but not blinding white light. I use two of them and you would be surprised at the parade of critters lurking around at night. one is set up for video the other is set for snapshots. a cheap deterrent can be made from a battery and a red blinking diode from radio shack. Put it in a highly visable garage window . blinks away for months. theives seek easier targets.
