A local guy is advertising a 1947 PW for $1500. Called the guy and it was used as a plow truck and ran as of two years ago. Said it overheated and it may have blown the head gasket. Comes with a plow and the hydraulics, and has an operational winch. All original, no mods.
Asked him if I could come see it and he said OK,, but it was "encapsulated in snow and you will have to bring a shovel since its 15' from the driveway." I said fine.
Then he backtracked saying he had gotten two other calls and he wasn't sure if he wanted to sell it. Appears he's an older guy that is starting to sell off his stuff (says he had two WC 53s he sold and also a 1942 1.5 ton Jeep ambulance he got rid of recently).
After a pleasant conversation, he said he'd get back to me if he wanted to sell. Felt sorry for the old guy. Sounded like he was having a tough time parting with so many things from his past. Then he said he might just put it on a trailer and drive it to my town so I can take a look. Who knows where this will go, but as Gordon Maney says, the fun is in the hunt.
Told the wife and she confirmed I was crazy and I really didn't need a third PW. Reminded her that our son and his wife are trying to have another child so we need another PW for her--she is hoping for a grand daughter. Reminded her that it was her idea six months that we had to buy another if we had a grand daughter since she thought it was unfair if the boy got one and the girl didn't. Score one for me.
