The diesil is a heat engine, requires hot compressed air to make combustion. When starting up in cold weather takes some time for the combustion chambers to get up to peak temperature for complete ignition of fuel injected.Unburned fuel enters exhaust and hence smoke.I know this (winter)scenerio very well had a part time job one time starting a fleet of over 100 tractors sunday night so they could get going when the drivers came in to head out.The 200 acre yard was a haze by 5 am when all the trucks were running.Junior copey
