I have used a product called EZ Flow Lithium Grease for 25 or 30 years in winches, closed knuckles, and even transfer cases. It is very hard to find, but it seems to have the same properties as John Deere corn head grease. It's thick so it doesn't leak out so bad, and yet it follows the gears for lubrication.
