IF and I say IF the surface is true with no waves you can but I wouldn't do anything more than 320 or you do what I call "chasing scratches". The 320 will make it slow enough that you can see it come in. You have to take even strokes and not stay in one place too long. Just like body work. Keep the DA perfectly flat too, don't ride on just one edge.

Don't get me wrong, I start out some pieces pretty roughly. When I cold bent the curved sections of the grill the edges had rolled up where it was riding on the hardened rollers and had to get them flat again. I started with a 9 inch angle grinder with a 9 inch grinding wheel. Once it was flat again on both sides I used a DA with 150 grit. Then hand sanded with 320.

On a hard surface DAs and Durablocks can't get things flat. Primers and fillers are soft so they work well there to take out highs and bring the lows in. That is why when I cut and buffed my clear I used wood paint sticks. I tried a Durablock but it left the surface too wavy to me.

It just depends on how picky you want to get with.

Bottom line to what I'm saying is DA's and Durablocks won't take waves out, they can help get the scratches out.
