Ya'll are forgetting the most important piece of the puzzle, the engine is so far out of square that the rpms are severely limited. the rod ratios dictate that the engine is a low rpm high tork engine no matter what configuration of carbs or exaust is used. over head valves will help with the breathing but will not move the rpm range where power and tork are made to a large degree. if you spend 1500$ to get the engine in top shape, and overwind it and it throws a rod thru the block at 5100rpms or you spend 25,000 for a new head and set up for the engine, it makes 65 more hp but still throws a rod thru the block at 5100rpms what is the bottom line???? a 241 will look as good and get the same thing done for 22,0000 less, and will be worth more than a pw w/a engine w/a picture window in the side of the block. Dave.
