Well, what you need in a situation like this is a U-Bolt.
The German Navy used U-Bolts with great success in two wars, sinking uncounted thousands of tons of shipping in oceans all over the world.
And, as someone posted a few days ago, U-Bolts are available at many hardware stores, and on the internet. You can even have custom U-Bolts made to your exact specifications.
