I tend to "retire" my old solar panels to battery-maintainer duty. The one problem I've noticed with the cheap (e.g. H.F.) thin-film panels is that the output diminishes rapidly for the first few years and then levels off at maybe 1/4 of what they claim. So that 1.5 amp panel will be below half an amp in a few years. On the other hand, that's still plenty to keep a charged battery charged, and at least you don't have to worry about over-charging it.
