I have some inside stuff on China as well. The company I work for decided they wanted to open a plant in China. Here is what happened.

China makes outsiders build building to their specs. Full open 2 story buildings with HUGE doors. All new machinery must be new. NO USED OR REBUILT. Our company tried to slip stuff in and it was caught and rejected. Housing for workers on site and a list of others specs.

We had several idiots go over and train them on how we do what we do. One of them told of the conditions and how bad it smelled. Open drainage ditches ran raw sewage to "rivers" along the raods and he said it was pretty disgusting.

The housing is there to keep workers there. Most of them are from the poor outlying areas. They come in and stay for a year, then return home and don't come back on theie 1 week National holiday. It costs them 1 months wages to travel back home on average. Our company said they loose more than 1/3 of the workforce every year.

It failed miserably and they pulled out costing us millions that WE had to make up for their bonehead decision. China's got the building now, they know how we make our stuff, and they left a lot of the machines as it wasn't cost effective to ship them back. Doing just what the Chinese government figured. Thanks management!

Like was stated in other posts. their will always be "somewhere" that will do it for less. Most places you either work or be hungry, The US has gotten away from that and in my opinion has hurt more than anything. Hunger is a great motivational tool. May be harsh to some, but it's the truth.
