... when a parent passes, it's a million things to do and not nearly enough time or money to do them. The (responsible) children are just getting done with the hospital/hospice, then the funeral service, and now the house... and get it done quick, you have to leave town and the agent needs to get it on the market!

It's hard to blame the kids. In the scheme of things, unfortunately, spending time to sell a $150 thing on eBay just doesn't register. The estate liquidators are often a big hassel to deal with too, and they don't usually give much money back. Spending time learning this takes up a lot of what little time they have - hence the dumpster.

Actually, I think the best approach is to have a trusted person who knows the stuff deal with it, if you can find such. Guns are a thing in many probate matters, and the widows who seem to make out best on those are the ones with buddies of the deceased who pitch in to help out. Not always available, but I know who my guys are, and I even have a few notes that the wife knows about... just the big stuff, you understand. Now remember fellows: ya gotta pull full choke, pump it twice, then push the choke in while cranking - starts every time - and stay off the gas 'till she warms up just a bit!
