The "vultures" are usually daughters fighting over who gets the silver, the linens, the jewelry and such. I have never seen sons fighting over who gets to keep the good tools and use them. If the sons both want the tools, they're the kind of men who will be glad to put them in whoever has the best shop and share them. If the sons are the type to be vultures, they don't appreciate tools and all they want to do is get rid of it all and get cash. They might sell the whole shop to a clean-out guy, or they might just rent a dumpster. They always seem to be in a desperate hurry to "get the place on the market".

My first lesson in this was when I was very young and I had a great-uncle who died. I barely knew him but I knew he could make anything from beautiful furniture and a perfect yew long-bow with arrows he made himself from whittled cedar and fletchings from my grandpa's turkeys, to his own milling machine, lathe, and jig saw made from scratch, including pulleys that he cast himself. I never got to see the shop, but my grandpa (his brother) told me his grieving widow sold the entire setup to a junk man for $100. This would have been back around 1965, so make it $500 today, but still... I bet this kind of thing still happens. My grandpa snagged the little mill, which I now have, and a few odds and ends of tools, but he didn't know what anything was so he didn't get very many things that went with each other.
