I was up in the Andes Mountains last week visiting an archeological site that was located in the hills surrounding a river valley where much of the produce for Arequípa is grown. While driving through a pueblo I saw a 1960s D300 that was perfectly restored with a stake bed on it and being loaded with crates of vegitables. I thought what were the odds.

Well apparently the odds are pretty good because I counted 15 of them in this little community of a few hundred, all in perfect condition. Finally I stopped and asked one of the locals why there were so many early dodges and was told that it was a process of natural selection. In the 1960s nothing but dodges, fords and Chevys were shipped into Peru.

The old Dodges simply outlived the others and believe me the farmers here are just as practical and results oriented as in the US so they decided not to risk trying the more modern versions of trucks that are available today. I haven't seen any flat fenders yet.
