I worked with a super nice guy about 16 years ago. He found another job about 60 miles away in another shop. He asked me and others if he should give a 2 week notice and we all said NO. I don't think a single person told him yes.
The next day we found out he decided to go ahead and give them a 2 week notice because he thought it the right thing to do. They promptly walked him and his toolbox out the door since he was going to another shop. His next job didn't start for 2 weeks so he was out the income for his family.
He was a stellar employee as well. Even the supervisor told him he wished he wouldn't had said it to the management.
Good on you and congrats! You'll wonder how you ever had time to go to work!
