the thermostat controls engine temp. if cylinder temps are too high you lose lots of power. cold air means more power. on the trail in July you want the high speed fan and the huge radiator. I have been out a few times with other modern vehicles on hot days and they all started needing water about 1/2 way through the day. I have NEVER had to ad water on the trail in a PW or WC. some things might sound good on paper but in reality the PW system has many advantages. so there for I conclude that smaller is not more effeicent in the real world. also if you spring a leak you have more leak time driving the larger your capacity is. another factor is life span. pressurized systems do NOT last as long as zero pressure systems. zero is just not demanding on soldered joint, hoses etc.
