After replacing the rotor, condensor and coil, it started right up. Naturally, I figured the problem was solved. It was not, a couple weeks went by and it refused to start again...and many times thereafter. A couple days ago, the weather was cool, it started up again easily. Go figure. I will try and check the timing if it ever starts again.

I suspect the problem may be that the compression is so low, and/or the plugs wet with oil, that it just doesn't have sufficent power from whatever cylinder fires first to start it up...just enough to kick the starter out which it does routinely.

Regarding the 265 engine. I bought it along with some other PW parts from a local junk yard. The guy there really wanted to make a PW tow truck, just because he liked Power Wagons. He took the 265 out of an old Dodge truck, rebuilt it with a 60 thou over bore and had it ready to install in a rough PW he had. I did hear it run however. Then for reasons I forget, the plan went south. I bought the engine and the 4.89 differentals he had in this rough Power Wagon

It has been sitting in pole barn since. I turn it over now and then to make sure it stays free.

One last thing, I live in the country and the PW is in a garage...pretty hard to move it if it will not start. So I have not been able to get it to a nearby village where there is a knowledgeable mechanic....he worked on M-37s during the Korean war. Shortly, the snow will be heavy here, we get 150 in/yr and then nothing moves easily.
