Ron, your truck is a '49 correct? If you have the original first series box and tailgate, you need either of these part numbers:
1095 522
1279 784
The only difference is that the earlier number has a tapered hook and the later number has a blunt hook. Both chains have 17 links.
A truck from mid '51 and later with the second series box and tailgate takes a shorter chain - 14 links. The part number for that chain is:
1279 731
The tailgate should ALWAYS fold down and be supported horizontally by the chains.
